With the start of a new year always comes resolutions. My previous resolutions have also included a combination of eating healthier, finding more time to relax, becoming more patient, and other less tangible goals. However, as I look ahead at the plans I have made for 2010, I fear it all may go by so quickly before I can really live in the moment. So, to really let the potential successes and experiences sink in this year, I resolve, intangibly, to focus this year on living in moment. Tangibly, I resolve to blog my experiences as they happen and cap them off with a little personal commentary describing the hectic, crazy, over-scheduled, fortunate, and eye-opening life I currently lead.
I have decided to call my blog "Forever on the Dancefloor." Now, I have thought long and hard about this - how to essentially title my life. Aside from being a line from my favorite song and 2008 dance anthem, I believe this line describes how I like to view my life - as a dancefloor - not a stage! The main difference between viewing "Life as a stage" and "life on a dancefloor" is who is watching. If life is a stage, it is on display for others. Life on a dancefloor, however, is more personal. When one finds themselves on a dancefloor (or maybe its just me) its one chance to let loose and really dance how you want to with the people you really want to when everyone around you is doing the same. And while you don't go unnoticed on a dancefloor, the people watching you are the ones who to choose to and the ones who care. Get it? So, yeah this is 2010 a new year on the dancefloor and I've got a lot of big plans.
Let me just describe what I've got lined up to kick off the decade here...
First of all, I will be heading back to Cornell next week to finish my sophomore year. First semester was one of the most trying times of my life and could maybe be considered bittersweet. As one of the most social years at Cornell, living in my sorority house, first semester was also my hardest semester academically in the hotel school. There were definitely some moments this past fall that I questioned when all of this work and stress and general unhappiness would actually be worth it - but I survived and if anything I've learned how I need to better handle stress in my life because although its over for now, this won't be the last time in my life that I am affected by workloads and deadlines, uncooperative groups, and competitive friendships. After a month at home, I have my life back into perspective and I am ready to go back and enjoy my life and the many experiences I have planned this year.
Aside from school and sorority life, cheerleading has continued to be one of the most important aspects of my life, and while I had some doubts during a dismal football season (no offense football team), I have been reminded thus far this winter, why I love sports and being part of an athletic program. After an awesome weekend in NYC with a few of the girls frolicking in the NE blizzard in Times Square and "jumping through the roof" - as the nice little security man said - as Witt hit one of the greatest shots I've ever witnessed in person, I was rejuvinated cheerwise and found extreme pride in my Big Red identity when the boys almost pulled off one of the greatest upsets in college basketball history! Way to go Big Red!

In March, I will travel to Innsbrouck, Austria to try my luck at little Swiss Alp skiing, and I'm working on some finding some interships for the upcoming summer. In the fall, I plan to spend the semester in Florence, Italy studying Italian hospitality. So it should be an exciting year!
